Mitchell’s Miracles is a Romford based children’s charity actively seeking to raise awareness of childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma. In addition to educating the UK public about this rare disease, they actively fundraise to provide financial support to families and provide emotional assistance. This month we are delighted to be interviewing Kristel, founder of Mitchell’s Miracles.
Did you get any help from charities when you were going through Mitchell’s treatment? Yes, we were supported by a lovely charity called Make A Wish. Did you have any charity experience before this? No none at all. What hurdles were there for you to overcome when you made the decision to help others by setting up Mitchell’s Miracles? Because I didn’t have any experience with charity work, I had many hurdles to overcome, from the setting up, to designing, but importantly making sure we did it all correctly for the families we were supporting. At first I found it extremely difficult reading about the families that we were supporting, as it brought all the raw pain of the journey back to me. But then somehow, I managed to turn this around and turn this feeling into a positive, knowing that Mitchell’s charity was making such a big difference.
Who has been most instrumental with helping you set up and run the charity? Our board of Trustees have been most instrumental with the setup of Mitchell’s Miracles, and also the amazing community has given so much guidance and support for our charity. What help do you offer to families in need? Financial and Emotional support On a day-to-day basis, who have you got helping you in the office? Kim, Shannon and Jade work with me in the office. What are the ways in which people can get involved or volunteer for the Charity? By sharing our media for us, helping with community events and fundraising for the families we support. What are you most proud of since starting Mitchell’s Miracles? The fact that our little boy's name lives on forever in supporting so many families nationally. Can anyone seek out your help or do parents get referred to you following their child’s Neuroblastoma diagnosis? Yes, anyone can apply directly to our charity by completing the online application form, or they can ask their social worker at Young Lives Vs Cancer to apply on their behalf. What exciting events are planned for this year? Silent Disco - Berwick Manor Hotel Mitchell’s Magnificent Fireworks Display - Berwick Manor Hotel Christmas Market - Berwick Manor Hotel What other ways do you promote the Charity in order to raise money? Community Events, Social Media, working alongside businesses in Partnership. Can local businesses get involved and support you? If so, how? Yes, there are lots of ways a business can be involved with supporting our charity. They can find our fundraising pack via the website or get in touch with our fundraising team [email protected] for more information. If money wasn’t an issue, what one thing would you do tomorrow to improve the service you currently provide? We would literally support every family, every single month…. throughout their child’s journey with financial assistance. What do you see Mitchell’s Miracles doing in the next 5 years? Hopefully we will have a charity shop so we can receive more donations, which will enable us to spread our support even further.
