![]() Who doesn’t like to receive a Christmas card? Whilst I’ve been noticing more ‘merry text-masses’ being sent as opposed to physical cards, it’s a tradition that I love to indulge in. The first commercial Christmas Card was created in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole. He was responsible for thinking up the idea of sending written season’s greetings in a card and it’s a tradition that continues today and is observed by many across the globe. As a result, Christmas Card Day is celebrated every 9th December in his honour. It’s amazing how simple ideas can flourish into long-lasting traditions. By 1880, Prang and Mayer were producing a massive five million cards a year. The ritual of sending Christmas Cards had become a well-established practice. Whilst nowadays there is a huge range of images to choose from, back then, many cards depicted children or cartoon animals. In 2001, one of the world’s first Christmas cards sold at auction for a whopping £22,250! ![]() So what are you waiting for? Remember to include a personalised greeting in your homemade masterpiece. Whilst many reflect biblical verses and blessings, other popular messages written inside a Christmas Card are, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and Seasons Greetings.
